Having grown up in the area, he was the middle child of three brothers that shared similar interests. So, when his older brother ventured into Emergency Medicine, he and his younger brother followed suit. Dr. Gesell's full-circle path in healthcare started at St. John's University for his undergraduate degree, he then traveled to Missouri for his medical educa- tion, completed his residency in Michigan, and ultimately joined his younger brother back in Alexandria as Alomere Health's Emergency Department Director. "I had a good child- hood and education here. It was an easy decision to move back with my growing family," says Dr. Gesell. He was also pleased to see so much support from a health. system the size of Alomere. "I was very impressed with the level of care at Alomere," comments Dr. Gesell. "There is excellent staff that's very capable, good staffing ratios, state-of-the-art technology, and specialists the Emergency Department can consult when there's a need. "I like the excitement and the fact that every day is different. And because there's typically never any on-call, I can struc- ture my time off." When asked what values are a good fit at Alomere, Dr. Gesell has a quick answer, "Dedicated, hard working, and willing to do what it takes to get the care the patient needs. It's that commit- ment that's so critical to the health of our department and organization. And, of course, someone who loves outdoor activities," smiles Dr. Gesell. When he's not working or spend- ing time with his wife and three children, Dr. Gesell continues to enjoy all of his childhood activities: running, hunting, fishing, and being on the water.
