The beginning of what is known today as Viking Bank started in April 1981 when a group of Alexandria residents brought the Association into legal existence. Viking Savings Association began as a state chartered mutual savings association. It was the first such charter issued by the Commerce Commission (Banking Division) in more than twenty years in the state of Minnesota.
