*IMPORTANT PROPERTY TAX HOMESTEAD NOTICE* This may affect your 2024 property taxes and eligibility for a Property Tax Refund HAVE YOU PURCHASED OR MOVED INTO A PROPERTY IN THE PAST YEAR? Contact your County Assessor's office to file a homestead application if you or a qualifying relative occupy the property as a homestead on or before December 31,2023. WHAT IS A QUALIFYING RELATIVE? For occupied residential and agricultural property, a qualifying relative includes the child, grandchild, sibling, parent, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece of the owner or owner's spouse. For unoccupied agricultural property, a qualifying relative includes the child, grandchild, sibling, or parent of the owner or owner's spouse. Property that has been classified as seasonal recreational property at any time under the current ownership or spouse of the current ownership is not eligible to receive the "qualifying relative" homestead classification. WHEN DO YOU APPLY? You must apply on or before December 31,2023 to have the homestead reflected in the taxes payable in 2024. Contact the Assessor's office no later than December 31,2023 if the use of the property you own or occupy as a qualifying relative has changed during the past year. If you sell, move or for any reason no longer qualify for the homestead classification, you are required to notify the County Assessor's office within 30 days of the change in homestead status. Once homestead is granted, or your property has been classified as homestead previously and nothing has changed, no further applications are necessary unless they are specifically requested by the County Assessor.
