UGI Memorial Day is a day meant to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our great nation. The origination of this day started in 1868 after the American Civil War after a group of veterans from Dectaur, linois established i as a time to decorate the graves of the Union war soldiers with flowers. While this day is also the unofficial start of summer, I urge you to attend the Memorial Day parade going down Broadway street in Alexandria and ending with a service at Kinkaid Cemetery. If you are unable to attend take 10 minutes of your day, pick a cemetery to walk through and you will see the deceased soldiers grave sites. Take a moment to stop and say thank you for serving and fighting for our freedom.
